Assar

1928-2011

Nasser Assar, a French painter and illustrator of Iranian origin, has left his mark on the art world with his unique approach and his constant exploration of new forms of expression.

Assar presented his first solo exhibition in 1955, only two years after settling in Paris. Although it is briefly associated with Clouds, an artistic group that promotes informal painting based on transparency and immateriality, Assar has never been inclined to join a specific movement. He preferred to develop particular relationships with his contemporaries, in particular with the British Francis Bacon.

In 1966, Assar was deeply influenced by the exhibition of drawings by Pierre Bonnard at the Royal Academy. After moving to the south of France in 1967, he devoted himself to painting landscapes where the horizon was combined with systematic work on the motif. Assar sees his own work as a painting of non-figurative signs, always in search of an original source.

Since the 1960s, Nasser Assar has been regularly exhibited by gallery owners from around the world and invited to group exhibitions. In 2008, he participated in the event The Clouds, at the Hôtel du Département in Chartres, showcasing his work within this artistic movement.
