Buffet
Bernard Buffet, an expressionist French painter, developed a very personal figurative style throughout his career.
From an early age, he showed an exceptional talent for drawing and painting. He attended evening classes in the City of Paris and won the Beaux-Arts entrance examination in 1943, at the age of only fifteen. In 1946, he exhibited his first self-portrait at the Salon for Under Thirty Years. His works are characterized by a marked line and repetitive series, through which he often expresses his difficulty in living.
In 1948, Buffet signed an exclusive contract with Emmanuel David, an influential art dealer, which he then shared with Maurice Garnier. In 1958, a retrospective of his work was organized at the Galerie Charpentier in Paris, and in 1973, a museum is dedicated to him in Higashino, Japan. In 2017, the Museum of Modern Art in Paris and the Museum of Montmartre celebrated his work through a retrospective exceptional.
Bernard Buffet has left a significant mark on the art world, with his unique and recognizable style. His works continue to be admired and exhibited in numerous museums and galleries around the world.
