Gilioli

1911-1977

Émile Gilioli, a renowned French painter and sculptor, distinguished himself in abstract art of the 1950s.

Although his career was temporarily disrupted by the Second World War, during which he was mobilized near Grenoble, Gilioli managed to find inspiration during his regular visits to the city's Museum of Fine Arts. It was there that he discovered the aesthetics of cubism, which had a lasting influence on his work.

After the war, Gilioli returned to Paris and exhibited his works at the Salon des Réalities Nouvelles. He settled in a studio in Vaugirard alongside artists from the emerging Parisian abstract school. His creations are characterized by geometric shapes and clean lines, testifying to a daring abstract aesthetic. Émile Gilioli's art is a celebration of form, color, and artistic purity. Through his paintings and sculptures, he expresses his unique vision of abstraction and invites viewers to a captivating and contemplative visual experience.

In 1997, the Maillol Museum in Paris paid tribute to him by organizing a retrospective, thus allowing a better appreciation of his contribution and influence on abstract art.
