Laborde

Chas Laborde is a French author, printmaker, painter and illustrator of Brazilian origin. He is particularly well known for his representations of the female nude, which stand out for their quality and originality.

Laborde studied Fine Arts in Paris before collaborating with numerous newspapers and magazines of his time, such as Le Rire, Vogue, Vanity Fair And Le Figaro. Far from trying to please, Laborde likes to explore the shallows of society, the brothels and the bars of Paris. Unconcerned with making misery fascinating, he expresses his gaze in a precise and uncompromising manner. His Illustrations Accompany Major Works, Such As Persian letters by Montesquieu in 1943 and the Dangerous Liaisons by Choderlos de Laclos in 1940. With more than 60 illustrated books, Laborde leaves behind a prolific body of work, enriched with numerous advertising drawings and theater sets.

His work has been widely exhibited, in particular at the Michel Lagarde gallery in Paris in 2012, where his humorous cartoons, and at the Cézanne workshop in Aix-en-Provence in 2014, where were unveiled Darker Works Testifying to the period between the wars and the rise of fascisms.
