Teh-Chun

1920-2014

Chu Teh-Chun, a Chinese artist, is considered to be one of the greatest Chinese abstract painters of the 20th century.

He first studied art in China, then moved to France in the 1950s, where he discovered European abstract art. Teh-Chun develops a personal style in abstract landscape design, cleverly fusing traditional Chinese techniques such as calligraphy and ink painting with elements of European abstract art. His poetic abstract compositions are characterized by the use of bright colors and curved lines, often drawing their inspiration from nature and Chinese landscapes. In 2002, he was commissioned to create the fresco in the hall of the Shanghai Opera, which he decorated with his Festive symphony. Chu Teh Chun has also worked with a variety of mediums including printmaking and ceramics.

His works are exhibited in museums around the world, such as the Centre Pompidou and the Museum of Modern Art in Tokyo. Her artistic heritage is celebrated for her contribution to Chinese abstract art and her ability to create poetic and elegant compositions that reflect Chinese tradition while being influenced by European artistic movements. In 2010, a retrospective was dedicated to him at the National Museum of China in Beijing, testifying to his artistic importance.
