Bernar
Venet
Bernar Venet is an internationally renowned contemporary artist, known for his monumental sculptures and his explorations of conceptual and minimalist art.
Beginning as a painter, he turned to conceptual art in the 1960s, using industrial materials such as tar and steel to question notions of form and function. His work is characterised by indeterminate lines and metallic arches, simple yet powerful forms that capture space and play with balance. His sculptures can be found in numerous urban spaces and public collections around the world, including Paris, Berlin, New York and Shanghai.
Bernar Venet has received numerous awards, including the Grand Prix des Arts de la Ville de Paris, and has been made a Chevalier de la Légion d'honneur. His artistic practice is marked by a constant reflection on language, science and mathematical rigour, offering a unique approach in the contemporary artistic landscape.
Many retrospectives have been devoted to the artist around the world, notably in Nice, San Diego, Seoul and Valencia, confirming his place among the key figures of conceptual and minimalist art. In 2011, he exhibited his monumental sculptures in the gardens of the Château de Versailles.
