Zadkine

1888-1967

Ossip Zadkine, Russian sculptor, is one of the most important artists of abstract art and modern sculpture of the 20th century.

At a very young age, Zadkine devoted himself to sculpture and studied art in London and Paris before settling permanently in the latter in the 1910s. There he met renowned artists such as Constantin Brancusi, Jacques Lipchitz, Pablo Picasso, Léopold Survage and the Delaunay, who influenced his artistic career.

Zadkine's work is distinguished by his experimental approach to sculpture, where he uses abstract forms to create powerful and expressive works. He explores different materials such as wood, stone and bronze, creating sculptures that are praised for their balance and harmony. He also incorporated the influences of the artistic movements of his time, such as cubism and surrealism, into his own creations.

Among his most remarkable works, “The Destruction of the City” (1951), a bronze sculpture representing Rotterdam after the bombings of the Second World War, testifies to his talent and artistic vision.

Today, Zadkine's works are exhibited in museums around the world, including the Zadkine Museum in Paris. His artistic heritage is recognized for his contribution to abstract art and for his innovative and personal approach to sculpture.
