This drawing is one of the works representing Marthe Alanguie executed in 1899 to illustrate the set of erotic poems by Paul Verlaine.

At the same time, published in 1900 by Ambroise Vollard. Pierre Bonnard's ambition for this first artist's book was to accompany the poet's powerfully evocative text with spontaneous, sensual and suggestive lithographs.
