Art is at the rendezvous no. 20 - A look at a work by Edouard Vuillard

Circa 1932, Pastel and graphite on paper, 16 x 11 cm
Monogram stamp at the bottom left
Édouard Vuillard invites us inside his room with the Hessel family, at the Château des Clayes. He is happy there and everything in this work expresses that happiness.
The room is full of light. The walls and the floor are treated with pastel yellow while a small touch of blue highlights the silky aspect of the cushion of the chair placed in front of his desk.
On the fireplace, in front of the mirror, a vase welcoming a bouquet of red flowers finishes brightening up the place.
This work is preparatory to the eponymous painting preserved at the Art Institute of Chicago to be produced in the Artist's Catalogue Raisonné (vol. III, chap. 12, no. 255, no. 255, p. 1579).
