Galerie AB - Agnès Aittouarès is pleased to announce its collaboration with the exhibition “Bonnard and Japan” at the Hôtel de Caumont until October 6, 2024.
Two works from our collection are present: “Woman in a landscape, in the moonlight” and “Marthe naked face on, study for Mary”.
“The Hôtel de Caumont is devoting its summer exhibition to the genius of Pierre Bonnard and to the influence of Japanese art on him. This is the first exhibition on the subject, which will show how Bonnard — the man who was formerly nicknamed the “Very Japanese Nabi” — integrated the aesthetics of Japanese art into his treatment of space, time and movement, into the aesthetics of Japanese art, to create works that break with naturalism and impressionism. The works of the French painter will be exhibited alongside Japanese prints in order to illustrate their correspondence and formal affinities, as well as the importance of this source of inspiration for the artist.”
