Agustín Cárdenas (1927-2001) was a Cuban sculptor of French origin, associated with the Surrealist movement and the École de Paris. He was born on April 10, 1927 in Matanzas, Cuba, and died on February 9, 2001 in Havana, Cuba.
Cárdenas began his artistic career in Cuba before moving to Paris in 1949. He was quickly influenced by contemporary artistic movements, especially surrealism and abstraction. He became a member of André Breton's surrealist group, but eventually turned to more abstract forms of expression.
