André-Pierre Arnal is a French contemporary artist born in Nîmes in 1939.
He works in Paris and is steeped in Mediterranean culture, influenced by the landscapes of Bas-Languedoc and the Cévennes. Arnal studied both literature and the visual arts, and taught French for over thirty years.
His artistic career included a brief stint at the Beaux-Arts in Montpellier in the 1960s. He discovered artists such as matisse, American abstracts, and especially Paul Klee.
A prolific artist, André-Pierre Arnal has been active since the 1970s and has participated in the “Supports/Surfaces” movement. He opposed the artist's individualistic conception, emphasizing the destructuring of the work's traditional medium. Her artistic work explores an infinite variety of supports and techniques, ranging from monotypes, prints, prints, wrinkles, folds, dyes on reserve, string, rub, stencils, stencils, pull-outs, collages to oblique tears.
Arnal appreciates experimentation and real anchoring in sensual materials, with a growing preference for color. In recent years, his work has evolved towards a compartmentalization of the painted canvas, incorporating road maps that are canvas-backed, foldable, or deployed. Arnal contributed to reinventing the concept of series by multiplying his work as a painter endlessly.
Her artistic approach is characterized by constant exploration and experimental research, spanning over four decades of artistic creation.
