Oscar Domínguez (1906-1957) was a surrealist Spanish painter and sculptor.
Born in La Laguna, in the Canary Islands, he emigrated to Paris in the 1920s, where he developed his artistic style. Domínguez was associated with the Surrealist movement and actively participated in its artistic and intellectual activities.
His work was often marked by fantastic elements, biomorphic forms, and an exploration of dream states. Oscar Domínguez was also one of the first artists to experiment with the decal technique, a method of applying paint between two surfaces and pressing them together to create random patterns.
His contribution to this technique influenced other surrealist artists. Despite his involvement in the Surrealist movement, Domínguez also faced difficult times, especially during the Second World War.
He committed suicide in 1957 in Paris. Although his life was short and marked by personal challenges, his work continues to be studied and appreciated for its contribution to surrealism.
