František KUPKA

František Kupka (1871-1957) was a Czech painter and graphic designer, one of the precursors of abstraction in the early 20th century.

Born in Opočno, Bohemia (now in the Czech Republic), Kupka studied in Prague and Vienna before moving to Paris in 1896. František Kupka started his artistic career as an illustrator and cartoonist, but he quickly moved towards abstraction.

He was one of the first artists to explore pure abstraction, independent of any figurative representation. He developed an artistic style that combined geometric shapes with an innovative use of color.

One of his most famous series is the “Primers” series, where he explored the decomposition of light using geometric shapes and bright colors. Kupka was also influenced by esoteric and spiritual ideas, incorporating elements of mysticism into some of his works.

František Kupka was one of the founders of the Orphism artistic movement, alongside Robert Delaunay. He has participated in numerous exhibitions and has influenced the development of abstraction in modern art. His commitment to pure abstraction and his innovative exploration of color make him an important figure in the history of 20th century art.
