André Masson (1896-1987) was a French painter, designer, and sculptor associated with the Surrealist movement. He was born in Balagny-sur-Thérain, in Oise, France. Masson played an important role in the development of surrealism during the 20th century.
Masson began his artistic career in the 1920s as an active member of the Dada movement in Paris. However, he quickly turned to surrealism and became one of the most influential members of the group led by André Breton.
